Tonight is the annual Fur Ball benefit to assist in our island's premier animal care center. There will be dinner and a silent auction of many items to assist the shelter. |
Once again, at 2PM today, the pooches will be strutting their fabulous doggie costumes as the Doggie Parade gets underway. Lots of fun. |

This weekend, the race runs from Teague Bay to Christiansted Habor and back. This race included other islands in the Caribbean. |

SEA's Masquerade Ball and Auction - The Palms at Pelican Cove From 6PM - 10PM tonight, the St. Croix Environmental Association will host this year's Masquerade Ball. The theme is SEAing Green. So come out with a green green costume of your favorite sea creature and win a prize. There will also be a live and a silent auction of 160 items. |

An afternoon of dancing to the beat of the drums. Good rythmic exercise for both women and men, young and old. All are welcome to attend. No one is immune to this beat, it is as familiar as the beat of your heart! |

Friends of Denmark - 2nd Annual Danish West Indian Night St. Croix Country Club - Frederiksted |
For their 45th Anniversary, the Friends of Denmark are displaying Danish and Danish West Indian Cuisine complete with recipes. It is an opportunity to see the original Danish recipes that inspired West Indian dishes such as Red Grout. Dinner, quelbe and Danish music will be enjoyed from 5:30PM to 9 PM. |

Lessons about the environment and its creatures takes place this morning for young and old. SEA and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service are hosts. |
March 22 United Way's 8th Annual Chili Cookoff - Divi Carina Bay Resort |
Come out on the beach for a taste of some great chili for a good cause. Entries include both vegetarian and meat types of chili. 9AM to 6PM. The winner goes on to the National Hili Cookoff in Terlingua Texas. |
Spring Starving Artists Day - Whim Plantation Museum Today is the Springtime show at Whim Greathouse. Local artists, craftspeople and vendors will have items on hand and give demonstrations from 10AM to 5PM. |
March 31 - (Holiday) Transfer Day Today marks the official transfer of the islands of St. Croix, St. Thomas and St. John from Denmark to the United States in 1917. The era of Danish rule came to an end however islanders were not granted citizenship of the U.S. until 1921. |
April 8 - Passover Begins Tonight at 6PM Passover Begins. The commemoration of passage out of slavery in Egypt into the promised land. This year Easter and Passover coincide on the calendar similarly as they did in the year of Jesus' passion. |
April 9 - (Holiday) Holy Thursday For those of the Catholic faith this day begins the Passion Weekend leading up to Easter. Many Virgin Islanders take this holiday season to camp on the beach for the long weekend. |

April 13 - (Holiday) Easter Monday An extra day off from work to recover from the celebration of the Resurrection. Passover continues. |

Five days of tennis action to benefit the Women's Coalition. Men's Doubles, Women's Doubles and Mixed Doubles matches will be played. |

Today, Mother Earth needs our help more than ever. Earlier this week we had the opportunity to tour the new Solar House at Green Cay on the East End. |
Tonight from 6PM to 9PM the St. Croix Foundation hosts one of the largest food events on the island. Chefs from numerous restaurants vie for the crown. Tastings of food and wine from many of St. Croix' fine establishments will be available for sampling by a select sampling of the island's food lovers. Tickets for this event are scooped up fast! |

This Chicken and Rice contest is for the benefit of the Florence Williams Public Library's Spanish Wing. Many cooks from several Latin American countries vie for the title of best cook of Arroz con Pollo. |

May 1 - (Holiday) Carnival Children's Parade - St. Thomas With Carnival in full swing in St. Thomas, the whole territory gets the day off to travel to St. Thomas and enjoy the festivities. St. Thomas gets off Wednesday and Thursday in addition for their Food Fair and J'ouvert. |

This year's Brunch and Performance will be held at the Reading Rainbow Great Hall in Upper Love from 12 Noon to 4:30PM. This event benefits five dance scholarship recipients by sending them to study at the Zawadi School of African Dance in Atlantic City, NJ and the Kankouran West African Dance Company in Washington, DC. July 3 - (Holiday) Virgin Islands Emancipation Day Today marks the anniversary of the freeing of the slaves on July 3, 1848 from what was then known as the Danish West Indies. Governor von Scholten's proclamation of freedom was read from the ramparts of Fort Frederik in Frederiksted. This action was forced by the uprising of the enslaved lead by General Buddhoe, Moses Gottlieb. 5:30AM - Walk to Freedom from Fort Christiansvaern to Fort Frederik led by Senator Terrence 'Positive" Nelson. Noon - Food Sale in buddhoe Park, Frederiksted 4:00PM - Mario Moorhead and Carlyle Corbin, historians will detail the Emancipation legacy and what it means today. 7:30PM - Quadrille in Buddhoe Park with music by Native Rhythm Band |
July 4 Independence Day Today marks the United States first day of independence in1776 from the rule of Great Britain. A new constitution, modelled partly on Thomas Paine's The Rights of Man was formed as a 'great experiment' to try the hypothesis that man could live, civilly and socially, a life of freedom and equality with inalienable rights and limited government. |

September 27 Yom Kippur Tonight is Kol Nidre, the beginning of the Day of Atonement in the Jewish calendar. This holiday lasts for two days. |

October 1 Contract Day 1878 Fireburn Re-enactment - UCA Headquarters Frederiksted Witness the facts leading up to the burning of Frederiksted and parts of the countryside. Then take part in the torchlight re-enactment of the burning itself. |
October 3 Cookoff - Gallows Bay v. Bethlehem This cooking match between two neighborhoods will determine whose bragging is backed up by a cooking fire. |
October 9 - 11 Virgin Islands Puerto Rico Friendship Village The Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico share a lot of history and this weekend is set aside to commemorate our shared past, present and future. |
October 12 (Holiday) Columbus Day It was in 1493 that Columbus first landed in St. Croix at Salt River Bay. It was there that he lost a few men in a fight with the Kalinago (Caribs) who inhabited the island and for whom the Caribbean is named. |
November 11 Veteran's Day A day set aside to remember all those who have fought in wars and/or lost their lives in those struggles. |
